Planned surgery: what does the pathway look like?

“You need surgery.” Three words that often raise more questions than the illness itself. Where? When? What happens? Here is the pathway for planned surgery, step by step.

1. The surgical consultation

It all starts with a consultation with the surgeon, in Montreux. They examine your situation, confirm whether or not surgery is indicated, and explain the operation to you: what it corrects, how it is carried out, any alternatives and what to expect afterwards. This is the time to ask all your questions, including the ones that seem trivial. There's no such thing.

2. Preparation

Depending on the operation, a pre-operative assessment is organised: laboratory tests, which can be done directly on site, an anaesthetic consultation, and precise instructions (fasting, which medications to stop or continue). You receive clear instructions, and a number to call if in doubt.

3. The operation, at a partner clinic

Operations take place in a clinic where our surgeons are accredited to operate, with the appropriate technical facilities. Many operations are now performed as day surgery: you arrive in the morning and go home the same day, accompanied. For the others, a short hospital stay is organised.

4. Follow-up, back in Montreux

Post-operative follow-up then takes place at the centre, at Montreux station: checking how the wound is healing, managing your recovery, gradually returning to your activities. Your regular doctor is kept informed at every step, which is the advantage of a team working under one roof.
